Defunct Military Schools

Lowery-Phillips Schoo
The Lowery-Phillips School was named after its founder, B. G. Lowery and
F. F. Phillips.  It was established in the September 1, 1910.  The 
school
is a basically a private boarding school when it first started out, 
but in
1912, the administration of the school decided to make it an exclusive
military school for boys.
Financial difficulties urged the owners of the school to close down the
Lowery-Phillips School.

The Lyman Ward Military Academy, otherwise known as the LWMA, is a 
private
military school which can be found in Camp Hill, Alabama.  Its founder 
is
Dr. Lyman Ward.  Ward established the school in 1898 as a non-profit,
non-denominational educational institution for the rural youth of 
Alabama.

In 1901, the State of Alabama granted Dr. Ward a charter incorporating 
the
school with the name; The Southern Industrial Institute, Inc.
In 1948, Dr. Ward's passing led to the establishment of a military 
depart.
The school then changed its name to Lyman Ward Military Academy in honor
of its founder.

1892 marked the day that the Randolph Macon Academy was established.  It
was founded by Dr. William Smith as a preparatory school program.
Randolph-Macon Academy aims to help students achieve their potential
through personal attention in small classes, tutorial sessions, 
mentoring
groups, and supervised study halls.

The Manlius School was founded in 1869 by the Rt. Rev. Frederic Dan
Huntington, Bishop of the Protestant Episcopal Diocese of Central New
York.  A building of the former Manlius Academy, founded in 1835 in the
Manlius Village, was chosen as the school's main building.  The Manlius
Old Boys, as the school's alumni were known, served in a number of wars
including World War I, World War II, Korea and Vietnam.
