The Columbia Military Academy can be found on the west side of Columbia.
Its buildings are on a beautiful tract of land containing 67 acres, in a
most desirable section of the city. It was held under different
administrations as a result of the school being purchased by different
owners over the years.
The academy has since been under financial constraints but its last
purchasers has been financially successful and its work has had the
approval of the public and the Government. These parties spent many
thousands of dollars in constructing many new buildings and greatly
improving the property.
It dropped its military structure in 1979 and focused instead on an
educational curriculum that is more inclined towards a catholic
tradition.

A renowned military school was established by George E. Merrick in Coral
Gables in the year 1924. This academy was called the Coral Gables
Military Academy. The academy moved to a different area in 1932; it
changed its location to the Bayfront Land at 10601 Biscayne Boulevard in
Miami Shores. It was during this time when the academy was renamed the
Miami Academy.
By sheer misfortune, the academy had to close down in 1974. Similar to
numerous buildings that have been destroyed and replaced in Miami, there
are no historical markers anywhere to remember the military academy
on the
bay for 42 years.

Linton Hall Military School
Linton Hall College started out when Sister Baptista Linton donated a
piece of land to be used educational grounds for poor bpys and girls.
Two
schools were thus established in this area: The Benedictine Fathers
established St. Maurus Boys' School in 1893; the Benedictine Sisters
established St. Edith's Academy for girls in the following year.
Eventually, the Benedictine Fathers left the area, so the Benedictine
sisters were left to deal with the situation at hand.
In 1922, the Benedictine Sisters decided to start two schools: St.
Gertrude High School for girls in Richmond, Virginia, and Linton Hall
School, a residential school for boys in Bristow.
Linton Hall began as a military school, but the military curriculum of
the
school was dropped in 1988. The school decided to maintain its Catholic
thrust.
